How to change your Minecraft server jar

If you are looking to change the version or features of your server, you'll need to change your server jar file. This article will show you how.

NOTE: To change your Minecraft server jar, you will need to login to the panel and access your files. You can read our guide about this here
Your server .jar is how your Minecraft server runs. The jar determines the game version, if your server can support plugins, and if your server can support mods.

In this guide, we will show you how to change your Vanilla Minecraft server to support plugins. This guide can also be used to change the version of your server, and we have a different guide on installing forge on your server: (Coming Soon!)

We will be using the file manager, but the SFTP server works in a similar way.

Step 1: Stop your server and delete existing server jar
To avoid issues, please stop your server before proceeding. After you've ensured your server is stopped, locate your server .jar file and delete it. It can be deleted in the panel's file manager with the three dots and the delete button shown below:

Step 2: Download and upload new jar file for your server
Once you've ensured your current jar file is deleted, you will need to download and upload the new jar file that will run your server. In this case, we will be downloading Paper Spigot 1.15.2.

The most recent build found here is exactly what we're looking for:

With this downloaded, we can upload it using the upload button in the top right of the file manager. Once it is uploaded, your server files will look like this:

Step 3: Rename new server jar file and boot
Lastly, to get our server to boot we need to rename the new jar to server.jar. The name can be changed with the three dots on the side.

Once this is complete, your server is now ready to boot. Once booted, in the console type "version" the output of which will look similar to the following:

If the output shows the correct jar and version of Minecraft you choose, your new jar file has successfully been installed.

As always, if you're struggling to login or access the panel please do not hesitate to contact us via a standard ticket
